The reshoot will completely change Doctor Strange’s intentions, explains Xóchitl Gómez, America’s Chavez actress.
One of the guarantees of Marvel movies is that they always present some surprises for the superhero fan community. Despite the fact that many were carefully planned so that it would happen or, for example, other things simply happened in their place and were so good that the producers decided to leave them there. And for the truth, the actors’ improvisations are great and she has even become an actress for various feature films.
There are many instances like the ones mentioned above within the franchise – and the rest of the studios, in fact -. But here we must also include all the changes made by the producers themselves at the last minute after extensive planning to give it a better sequence. Thanks to the interviews, we realize that the films did not always release as initially planned.
Doctor Strange 2 also had its own sequence changes
newly, Xóchitl Gómez, who plays América Chávez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, explained how reshoots altered the opening sequence of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The film focused on introducing the new heroine in the MCU, America Chavez, who is persecuted by a dark force that wants to steal her transmigration abilities in the multiverse, rescued by a supreme sorcerer to preserve her powers in the face of the horrific plans of Wanda Maximoff-, which was first shown earlier in this general. Despite highly fragmented reviews, the film grossed over $954 million worldwide.
Directed by Sam Raimi (a famous director who was responsible for the Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire, the Evil Dead trilogy and other films like Drag Me to Hell) and in the cast, we have Benedict Cumberbatch again as Doctor Strange alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams And Gomez.
It is worth noting in this regard Doctor Strange 2 embraced Remy’s dark sensibilities and gave Marvel viewers a high-impact horror film. This gave the title a greater margin of authenticity than other installments in the MCU.
In Doctor Strange 2, several universes appear with different versions of the characters, leading the audience to understand the infinity of realities found in the MCU. To achieve this, the film had to undergo extensive reshoots that altered the end result before it was shown on the big screen.
During an interview with /Film, Gomez discussed related changes in the filming of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At first, he commented that there were many changes after the audition expectations, however, his argument focused on modifications in the initial scene. This means that The Supreme Wizard saved America instead of the version presented to the public where he discovers it. In the words of Gomez:
“Yeah, they changed a lot of things. The main thing about Marvel is that they are testing footage to make the movie what the fans want, to make it what Marvel movies are. We made a lot of changes to reshoot, it was crazy.” Lots of work, but it was fun. And it was very challenging, but it was also fun to wire it up the things I had already done, to do it in a different style with different intents and things one of the main things that changed was that the weird cannon was saving me in the beginning and it was a turning point because when he died I was sad because someone He cared for me and was protecting me, he died. It was this major drastic change that Defender Strange was really cheating on me and trying to take away my power.”
“There’s a lot to work with, but it’s also a very different perspective on her and her confidence issues because before you are that other thing altogether. Something as simple as this can change a lot.”
For a better understanding, reshoots are a very common resource within a production, where creators make connections between traits that will allow adequate flow of filming or, well, rehash some issues around the plot. So, unlike how Doctor Strange was considered a likable hero before the reshoot, and he became a character with even more chaotic interestswho can sacrifice a child under his distorted view of the good – as can be seen at the end -.
These modifications were one of the main points of the filming that turned one of the main characters into an antagonist, especially due to the hindrance of making such a change. Among other details, he also commented that the production assumed that the characters knew each other, even though there was no apparent relationship. But the thing that most makes up for it is that Raimi’s dark style is preserved in the horror elements that we can see in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
